We are essentially finished with the role mapping project, which will be finalized when all of the personas are created. Right now though, the majority of the work is complete and the team seems super happy with the results. Unfortunately, I haven’t finished the role mapping application or had time to work on it further. But, there is even better news. My boss wanted me to explore the possibility of creating a custom application that will connect UltiPro and Active Directory. The news can’t be any better (even though it’s not final final yet) since this will be a serious undertaking. It’s a big time project that I probably am no where near qualified to take on, but that’s ok. It’ll be a great learning process and I think that I’ll be able to figure it all out.
I’m going to have to figure out what to do with the role mapping project since it’s no where near finished. Either work on the weekends or tell my boss that I’ll need time in the future to complete it. My parents are telling me I’ll never finish it since there is so much other work to do. But, we’ll see where it ends up. I just need it in a place where it can be published on Github for resume purposes. So that’ll include adding additional functionality to allow users to upload data from Oracle and our BI system. The other is a full UX/UI run through to make it look presentable. I’ve got the features written down in Smartsheet, so that’ll be a good place for me to go to when I come back to it.
In the past week, I’ve spent time preparing and researching for the UltiPro / Active Directory integration. The best option is honestly creating a Rails application that is also windows compatible so our sys admins can do maintenance on the system if necessary. I’ve got a big meeting early next week, so we’ll see if it gets approved. In the meantime, the Business Case, Product Requirements Document, project timeline, and Agile board are essentially ready to go. I’ll spend some time fine tuning it all Friday and Monday. Then hopefully get project approval early next week!
Hoping for the best. I’ll update early next week.
