I didn’t have a chance to update from last Friday, so I’ll update everything I have done since then. I wrapped up the Codecademy Learn Javascript course on Friday, which was a great introduction to the world of Javascript. I’m still a little weary of the teaching style within their console, but I seem to have retained things fairly well (taking notes definitely helps!). During the second half of Friday, The Odin Project shot me over to this awesome site called Project Euler. They have posted 500+ math problems that cater to being solved by writing a computer program (e.g. Javascript, other languages). I’ll be honest, it was pretty tough to solve the first one. And I definitely looked through other students answers to help prod myself along. But, it really showed the power of computing in terms of automating repetitive tasks. You can check out my solution to the first problem here and I’ll definitely be trying the other problems sometime soon.
On Monday, I spent time going back through the last five sections of Discover Dev Tools. It was super helpful to review after having spent some time learning the basics of Javascript. Once I’m actually building websites, I’ll probably review the Discover Dev Tools tutorials again. In the afternoon, I jumped through the Additional Resources section on The Odin Project and found this page to be the MOST useful as I reviewed what I had learned. I’ll definitely continue looking through that page in the morning before moving onto the jQuery Basics section. I’m so stoked to start the jQuery Basics section by the way. I got a small taste of the power and simplicity of the jQuery library and can’t wait to learn more about it.
Also, here’s a quick side note from an article I read on Medium this morning. It was a personal account of someone’s journey to learn Javascript and the resources he found useful. I landed on probably the most useful page about Javascript that I’ve come across so far. Check it out. I’ve already downloaded some of the books and will definitely be reading them in the next year.
Oh, and I wanted to throw these Beginner Javascript tutorials from YouTube on the blog as well. I watched a few of them during lunch and this guy is awesome. Check out his channel and videos.
This post is getting a bit long, but it’s quite an update. I guess Javascript calls for it haha. I’ll leave a video by the famed graphic’s designer Milton Glaser to end the post.
