It’s been at least two weeks since I last updated the blog, and I definitely didn’t finish the role mapping application the week after my last update. Documentation ended up pushing that date out a little bit. But, today I finished up the whole project and all of the code is sitting on Github. It ended up being the perfect introduction to databases, forms, and rails in general. I’ll definitely be jumping through a more advanced database project to have in my portfolio in the next 6 months.
I also pivoted for my next project. I was going to build a website for a physical product that my girlfriend and I were thinking about launching, but we’re not quite ready yet. Plus, I might just use WordPress to create that website. I also did some thinking about the level of interest I have in the projects that I’m building and decided that I want to spend more time building things I enjoy. So, my next project is going to involve music. I’m thinking through the architecture right now, and will time box it to another two days before I start coding. It’s equally important, I’ve found, to spend time critically thinking through the architecture along with documenting as you go, to launch a successful project. Either way, I’m super stoked to get started.
As for work, I led a great stakeholder alignment meeting today and got project sign off on the architecture. The UltiPro <-> Active Directory integration project is on track, and we’re getting close to testing the full integration. Hopefully in the next two weeks we’ll be able to run full tests. Anyway, that’s enough for now. I’ll definitely be updating sooner than two weeks with more details on the new project. Cheers.
