I wrapped up my final Ruby project a couple weeks ago – apologies for a delay on the update. As a refresher, the goal was to build an auto updating baseball scoreboard using AJAX. I learned tons during the projects and you can check out the code on Github here.
That is only a small portion for this update though. During the past month, I decided to apply to a self-driving car engineering program through a company called Udacity (check out the details here). I spent at least four days writing a short essay and went through parts of a Python and C++ tutorials before submitting my application. Two weeks later, I found out that I had been admitted to the course!
Fortunately, the course isn’t too expensive and it will be a great primer for learning the basics (maybe even more advanced portions) of what it takes to become a self-driving car engineer. By no means do I believe that I will land a job through the course, but it is a great starting point. I start next week (July 13th), so I’ll give an update once Term 1 starts.
In preparation for the course, I’ve shifted gears and started watching lectures on YouTube. Check out the list below:
Andrew Ng is honestly one of the best lecturers that I’ve ever seen. He distills seemingly complex issues into some of the most simple concepts that anyone can understand. Huge props to him for having practiced that ability.
The MIT lectures are rooted much more in the technical aspects, which are absolutely necessary as well. For an intro course, it has been awesome to be able to watch all of the lectures online at my own pace. They also include a few projects that allow you to familiarize yourself with training neural networks. Check out my code here for the DeepTrafficJS project.
I’ll continue watching the MIT lectures up until I start the Udacity course, and hopefully finish the DeepTesla project before July 13th. It’s been an extremely busy month, but also a very satisfying 30 or so days. I can’t wait to get started with the Udacity course. Update to come soon regarding Term 1 of the Udacity course.
